Konica Minolta Signs on as Official Sponsor of the MIT Solar Electric Vehicle Team

Sponsorship Supports Student-Designed Solar Car to Participate in the 2011 World Solar Challenge 

Ramsey, N.J. - April 13, 2011 - Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta), a leading provider of advanced imaging and networking technologies for the desktop to the print shop, today announced that the company is an Official Platinum Sponsor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) Solar Electric Vehicle Team (SEVT) and their efforts to design a solar car to participate in the World Solar Challenge to be held in Australia on October 16-21, 2011. The sponsorship is part of Konica Minolta's green initiatives and ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.


The MIT SEVT is a recognized student organization that draws on a broad range of technical knowledge encompassing all fields of engineering and science. In addition to providing real-world design and manufacturing experience, the team gives students the opportunity to work closely with professors and members of the business community, including those on the board of consultants, when developing the vehicles. In addition to designing vehicles for racing, the SEVT is dedicated to promoting alternatively powered vehicles. Members participate in seminars, lectures, museum displays, conferences dedicated to alternative energy, and numerous Earth Day and ecological fairs.

The World Solar Challenge is the one of the largest solar car races in the world, stretching 3000 kilometers across Australia and lasting for multiple days. The race runs through the Australian Outback, from Darwin on the north coast to Adelaide on the south, and is held every two years. With over 30 cars participating from around the world, it is a challenge to produce the fastest and most energy efficient car.
