Brother DCP-7030 Laser Multi-Function Copier Review:

All In One Great Product!
By David Freis "FREIS" (Florida)
I had the Brother 2140 Lazer printer before I purchased this one and that was a fantastic printer that served me well. With the good luck I had with the 2140 Brother I figured I would give this one a try. I was done with all of my heavy duty scanning and no longer needed a dedicated scanner for intense photo scanning, so I looked for an all in one by Brother and found this one. From setup, to printing and finally scanning...the product performs on all levels and I could not be any happier.

The only negative I have in regard to this product is the size. It is one heck of a monster AIO but that will not keep me from still giving it the 5 star rating. I have a dedicated table for my AIO and router so it is no issue for me but if you are cramped for space you had better look at the dimensions carefully.

Great Printer
By D. V. Handley
I've had this printer for a few months and love it. The only attribute I ranked lower than 5 stars is the noise it makes when 'awake'. When not actively in use, it goes to sleep and is totally quiet.

I am thinking of buying another one. Very nice setup and
copy!!! My Minolta lasted ten years, and i DOUBT this one
will last that long, but very good so far.

A dream printer for this grad student!
By Katie (Mountain View, CA)
I love this printer. I'm constantly printing out a ton of pages--manuscripts, student papers, and the like. It is SUPER easy to set up and use. It's only jammed once and was easy to fix (I've had it for ~eight months). It's fast and scans and copies very easily. Sure, it doesn't print in color and it's not wireless--but for me, these were small downsides in a very sturdy, reliable, workhorse of a printer.

Brother DCP-7030 Printer
By C. Dunks "Bargain hunter"
I've only had this printer for a few weeks, but so far I have no complaints. It's a great size, i.e. small/compact enough to sit beside my monitor on my rolltop computer desk and therefore not too heavy either. My previous printer (also a Brother) was actually noisier when in sleep mode, so in comparison, I barely notice the noise and, in fact, often forget that it's still on until I happen to glance at the LCD screen! Set up was a breeze. I had been told that my toner from my previous Brother would work on this one but that was not the case. Big disappointment but toners have come down in price over the years, so I ordered a new one and I also got a refund on the unopened toner for my defunct previous printer. Print quality is great. Speed is fine. I needed a workhorse as I do a lot of printing about 3 times a year and I think this printer will fit the bill. As I mentioned, it's still fairly new so let's see what happens over the next year!!

Canon D340 Digital Copier Laser Printer Review:

A Great Value
I selected this copier/printer based on price, features and the Canon name. I felt like I got "Oh this type of deal" at that time I bought mine in Sept.08. It had been painless to setup: install the program; connect the USB cable (not given) when prompted and click <OK> and Voila! I arrange it as a shared printer which is the main printer in our 4 PC home network.

- Its quick
- Makes clear, clean copies
- Less quiet as some when printing but not at all loud
- Top sheet feeder works well, even for multiple sheets
- Toner cartridge would be a breeze to set up
- Enters and exits its "sleep" mode flawlessly, even from another PC about the network
- Comes with a FULL TONER CARTRIDGE, not a starter. For individuals who don't know relating to this: many new printers, particularly when for sale at LOW prices, can be purchased with a toner cartridge that's only great for a few hundred copies for the most part. Just enough to help you get going on day one and to give you time to go purchase a "real" toner cartridge. This could be how the mfg's will move more units, by selling them at super-low prices knowing they will make their profits you returning for toner.

With the rebate I couldn't pass this up, although basically were paying full retail I'd have chosen one that also scans towards the PC. That one Doesn't. It is simply a printer and copier. I'd also consider one that has a Print server and NIC built-in Basically could also connect directly for scanning.

Great little copier
By Richard Wagoner (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA USA)
This copier is merely amazing. It, together with non-feeder model, start up QUICKLY (NO warm-up time) and convey great copies. Actually, I liked the first so much (the non-feeder model) that I purchased a second. You cannot go wrong.

Satisfied small company customer A+
By B. Lefton (Boulder, CO USA)
After years of using high quality busy business copiers, our business shrunk right down to the reality that we no longer needed an expensive fast copier, just one that did the task. Whenever we read the reviews on this copier we were hoping that this you might supply the same quality copies as the large business copiers. We're not disappointed. The quality is appropriate up there using the big guys! Obviously it doesn't make copies as fast but it does make good copies which is easy to set up to your computer server and generate copies through your network!

WOW
By D. P. Schroeder "Paukenwirbel" (Astride the Carolinas)
It is really an amazing machine for that price. I've only been using it a few days, but I've designed a large amount of copies. I'd not realized how handy it is to possess a sheet-feeder. I have been copying legal-size paper -- not scannable about the scanner platform of all copiers, including that one -- but with a whir, it sucks the legal page in, and reduces it to suit on 8.5"x11". Really convenient.

And, with the instant-on function, it is, because the other reviewer stated, ready to go instantaneously. You push the "power saver" button to show it on, and it's all set in under a second. Then you definitely hit the button again, it powers down, and sits prepared to be applied out a moment's notice next time. Very impressive and convenient. And also the copy quality is fabulous.

Another plus with this unit is that it has a FULL toner cartridge; most of these "deals" in "all-in-ones" (or, "some-in-ones," when i give them a call) really only have TEASER prices because they provide an only partially filled toner cartridge that must be replaced in short order. Not so with this particular one. Full load!

Honestly, I've not hooked up to the pc yet, but I'll post much more about how that actually works when I achieve this. I have just been so thrilled using the copy functions (reduce/enlarge, etc.) and print quality which i desired to obtain a 5-star review up ASAP. I'm rarely impressed this much with peripherals, but this one is a no-brainer-buy, from my perspective.

One minor downside of a great value.
By harry715 (VA United States)
For many, having the automatic sheet feed would be a most desirable option. However, if you need to copy a legal-size original that can't be put through the sheet feeder, this copier won't do it. The physical space necessary for the sheet feeder took away length from the platen. As a result, the biggest original that may be copied on the platen is around 8-1/2" x 12".

I returned the D340 for any D320, that is identical in each and every way, with the exception that it has a platen large enough for any legal sized paper with no automatic sheet feeder. Although I've had the machine for a small amount of time, it seems to deserve the praise that other reviewers have mentioned.

Thanks to Amazon for their excellent return policy. It was everything I could have hoped it would be.

Canon ImageCLASS MF4350d Laser All-in-One Printer Reviews:

By D. Miller (New Mexico)
We bought this for use in the home preschool. Just before this we have been utilizing an Epson color inkjet printer. It works well however the ink costs kill. Within the month we've had it we've run through 1500 copies/print jobs. That used up the initial starter toner, however it did choose about 1300 pages. I bought an upgraded Canon cartridge during the time of purchase. Too we've scanned numerous docs into PDF files for storage and simple printing later. We've also used the fax send and receive. Everything works great.

An affordable winner
By PhotoGraphics (Arizona)
While I have nothing against Canon products, for some reason the only Canon product I've ever owned is really a recently acquired DSLR. All my printers have been HP or Epson (with one misfortunate selection of an Okidata once). Which means you could definitely not call us a Canon fanboy.

I have been thinking about replacing my Epson inkjet AIO for some time, not that there's anything wrong by using it however i rarely make color copies and my two other color printers handle all of my color needs. I additionally possess a $500 HP high-end monochrome laser printer with networking and duplex, so frankly the Canon MF4350d AIO is redundant as a laser printer. I guess it all dropped to my need for a scanner with a decent document feeder and the rare requirement for a fax machine.

When Amazon were built with a lightning deal about this model it was too good of a deal just to walk from. It has all the high-end copier/fax/scanner features for very inexpensive. My first impression on opening the box is the quality is excellent, it feels better than its $250 retail price will make you think, so in the price paid it's amazing.

It was simple to placed in Windows 7 and I found the instructions comparatively easier to follow than HP usually provides. The very first scans, copies and prints were perfect, slightly sharper compared to $500 HP. Speed from the first print is on a par with the HP but it is noticeably quieter without the cheap plasticky/metallic clanking of HP's printers of history Ten years. The HP constitutes a loud whine while it prints and the very loud fan stays on for up to 20 seconds, as the Canon activates there is much more of a low-pitched rumble then a print glides out and immediately it is going stone cold silent.

I definitely prefer the autofeed mechanism of the Canon towards the Epson. The angle is steeper so gravity can do a better job pulling documents in which is considerably faster. Quick walk-up copies really are a breeze to make.

It was important in my experience to understand the precise dimensions of the unit when i were built with a specific devote mind for this. Unfortunately, Amazon dimensions can't continually be trusted in the real world conditions. Canon's website's dimensions don't provide you with a precise concept of just how much room the printer needs, considering cable protrusions on the back, lifting the scanner lid and having the main paper tray extended in the "normal" position. So here they're. The unit Should have at least 23" of vertical clearance for that scanner lid to correctly open. The front-to-back footprint is 18" permitting cables and access to the paper tray, which is not fully internal like many, if not most, laser printers. The width needed is 18" to permit just a little air space. Observe that the lid, once the paper feeder (which must be installed) is within place extends BACK a great deal, so to open the lid properly if the printer's back would be to a wall I've included the total distance required when in correct operational mode. It is important to observe that these dimension is NOT the same as the simple measurement of the plastic case. For reference, Amazon's stated dimensions are 21" deep x 15.4" wide x 17.9" high.

I've been told for several years that Canon makes the print engines for HP laser printers, which is evident by the toner cartridge design which is virtually identical. From there each manufacturer will take off inside a different direction regarding case construction, user interface and features. As my first Canon printer I am impressed that overall their presentation of a finished product is more sophisticated than HP. There is one vitally important aspect to consider when researching ANY monochrome laser printer and that is that HP and Canon use a toner cartridge where the toner and also the imaging drum are combined ... whenever you replace the toner you replace the imaging drum and essentially get a new printer. Other manufacturers sell the toner cartridge separately from the imaging drum so their toner cartridges appear to be Less expensive than Canon or HP, that is until you hit the sticker shock of finding out how much do it yourself to periodically replace the required imaging drum (and sometimes even more consumable parts that are all encased within the Canon/HP design). This makes it very hard to compare cost per page. I'm able to only state that the main one time I ever purchased a laser printer that used separate consumables once the time found replace the imaging drum, that component alone are more expensive than the entire printer (which at that point I threw the printer in the trash). There are several very cheap laser printers out there and also at first glance their replacement toner cartridges seem less expensive than Canon or HP, but do your own cost study ... for the way much you print, may be the cost for any unified toner/drum that much more or will the sporadic requirement for a new imaging drum kit break your budget?

Bottom line: The Canon AIO is attractively prices while it is on closeout (it has been replaced only at that writing with a virtually identical model selling for 2-1/2 times more income. It is conveniently small for any laser AIO without giving up a decent cost per page (with different "real" replacement cartridge after you use up the provided "demo" cartridge). It's TONS of buttons and features and truly does almost everything. Construction quality is fairly good, especially in the highly discounted Amazon price. Consumable cost is very appropriate for an item of its type. Despite all of the buttons it is very simple to walk as much as it and use it without reading an instruction book. The enclosed documentation and software are adequate for that price and installation was fast and effortless.

Although this isn't place to give shoutouts to the vendors, I'm impressed that this product was ordered directly from Amazon late on a Thursday and arrived in perfect condition less than 24 hours later, obviously no tax nor shipping cost. I happened to be home, which was a good thing because my FedEx deliver person was quite nervous about leaving a large box with Canon logos all over it at my door (the factory box had simply no outer packaging). I'm happy this area arrived as clean because it did, but I am a bit surprised that Amazon allows an expensive looking product like that to become shipped with no outer packaging.

Great All in One if you use a MAC !!!
By John D. Moore "Johnny d. & Lugg p. Moore" (Big island of hawaii, Hilo , Hawaii)
This is a excellent little printer for the money, It's; fast, quiet, and really easy to use. Prints are professional and clean. It is only black and white, however, you can scan color items and print with an inkjet ( I personally use my old epson ) It is also totally MAC compatible! You will find the choice to scan or copy using either the feed or the flatbed.... Gotta say, I really like this machine ! Even though you must see canon's website to download the drivers for Mac, should you call their support at 1-800-385-2155( a high level bone head much like me) they will take you step-by-step through it and ensure everything is configured right. I give this two thumbs up !Canon ImageCLASS MF4350d Laser All-in-One Printer (2711B001AA)

Super Multifunction Laser Printer. Favorite feature: 2-sided printing, copying, & faxes.
By beta "beta" (Peoria, AZ)
Great multifunction laser. Love the simplicity, fast first copy - 9 seconds, and for its many capabilities (fax, copier, scanner, printer). Biggest selling point, besides price (on sale) is fast 2-sided printing and copying.

Note: My video review is at expotv.com but I am not sure links are allowed at amazon: (http://www.expotv.com/videos/reviews/17/161/Canon-ImageCLASS-MF4350d-Laser-All-in-O/287532). To find it, on topwith no numbers or digits, just "beta". Click on the Canon printer review which demonstrates the use of this wonderful Canon multifunction printer, including duplex copying.

You don't need to turn the paper to print about the reverse side. This Canon takes care of it for you personally. Make use of the 35-sheet automatic document feeder to copy 2 single-sided sheets into 1 double-sided sheet (but doesn't seem to copy 2-sided sheets to 2-sided copies). Saves tons of paper plus simple to clip together or place in binders with less pages. Quiet. Has a starter toner cartridge, great for about 1000 copies. Comes with fax cord, but you need to get a USB printer cable Belkin F3U133-10 Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Cable (10 Feet) Cartridges are simple to change. New cartridges are great for about 2000 copies: Canon 104 Black Toner Cartridge. It's tall (to accommodate all the features - 250-sheet tray, fax, scanner, copier, printer), yet sufficiently small footprint to suit on little TV table. Includes two disks (eManual and software. For Windows, includes ScanSoft OmniPage OCR (converts scanned images into editable text), Presto!PageManager, MF Toolbox, and NetSpot Device Installer (no network card in this model but networking will come in the larger end model Canon ImageCLASS MF4370dn Laser All-in-One Printer (2711B019AA) ).

Have not tried scanning however it says it may save to many formats, including multiple pages to 1 PDF document. Excellent - does the job of 4 machines in one. HIGHLY recommend this Canon imageClass multifunction printer!

Great multifunction printer

It has been an excellent printer for me personally. The issues mentioned in the previous reviews have been fixed - There is a new firmware update already on the Canon site for the scan issue. The folks complaining about the printer either had unique difficulties with their machine or just plain didn't browse the box. No, it doesn't include networking, so if you are searching for that, then try one of Canon's other printers. It has great top printing quality, a nice set of software tools, and is easy to use.

Another note concerning the printer: The toner cost is fairly reasonable around $65-70 (online). I am still using the original starter cartridge two months later, and so i am thinking that I will get even more life from a complete cartridge. I had been accustomed to toner cartridges over $100, so this was a nice surprise.

Great Printer

I actually do lots of document printing and was looking for a printer that would be effective for duplex printing. I have had the epson stylus nx625 for a month and thus far absolutely love it. I additionally considered several inkjet printers, however the duplex feature on these models worked painfully slow. The epson stylus nx625 can print two-sided documents very quickly and neatly. The printer begins quickly from the energy-saving sleep mode. It copies and scans well, though can be a little slow for some when it comes to scanning documents into PDF. The included software, incidentally, does allow for scanning multiple documents right into a single PDF file for all those using a PC (MAC users have reported that they're not able to do this). If printing in color is not important for you and you don't need to network your printer, then for that price this is a wonderful printer for the home or small office user.

Excellent choice for use at home

The epson stylus nx625 has given my loved ones everything we were looking for within this kind of device.

We purchased canon's MF4350D to replace a 13-year-old HP 5P and a 6-year-old HP Scanjet 5300C. Compared to our old equipment, the Canon is incredible. My wife scans a great deal, and the Canon scans pages in less than 5 seconds per page while using the document feeder. It does not take considerably longer to scan while using flatbed.

I had read previous reviews about troubles with using the Copy button on the printer to initiate a scan. Our printer came with the required firmware update already installed.

Printing is extremely quick, and also the double-sided capability is saving paper. We have the printer connected via USB to our primary desktop.

We're not using any of the faxing features.

The setup from the printer was very easy, however i had a problem after i plugged my iPod into the computer with the printer connected. Ipod and iphone was not recognized by Windows. After much research, I determined that the problem was an excessive amount of power being utilized the USB controller. I got myself a powered USB hub and the problems went away. For those who have a lot of USB devices connected to your pc with no powered hub, you might want to be familiar with this potential problem.

Brother DCP-7040 Laser Multifunction Copier with Auto Document Feeder Reviews:
Great functionality and flexibility
By N. Gowen (Little Rock, AR)
This printer has done everything it promised perfectly.

Startup: very fast from sleep mode. I timed page one out at about 19 seconds once i hit paper button. To my surprise it actually wakes up pretty fast from being turned all the way off (turn on the righthand side). The time from being switched on to first page out (had print jobs waiting) was 33 seconds.

Printing: fast with top quality. Makes about just as much noise as you would expect, certainly not enough to be troublesome. Toner save mode printing is pretty light but still readable. I printed some full page pictures, which turned out pretty well. Pages are available out slightly curled, although not enough to bother me at all.

Scanning: Exceeded my expectations. I have not had the problems other reviewers mentioned about scan quality. I scanned in certain 4 x 6 pics and blew them as much as full screen on my small 21 inch monitor, the standard was good. At 4 x 6 size they look perfect, and also at roughly 4x magnification the standard is still acceptable (some pixellation visible in addition to some flaws within the original). Most of my scanning needs are documents, which printer handles that quickly and flawlessly. I really like having the ability to scan multiple pages using the document feeder.

Copying: works perfectly, rather easy using the document feeder.

Document feeder: works perfectly to copy or scanning.

Toner: I can't comment when i haven't used the printer enough.

Overall this is an excellent all-in-one that does each of it's jobs perfectly. I bought this for home use as an alternative for an old ink jet printer, and I like it. For me personally, it is incredibly handy to be able to scan or copy any document right from home. Also having the speed and relatively low cost of every page makes me more prone to print things out, which makes my entire life easier.

How can they produce this kind of awesome machine at this price?
By PsychDoc "Psych Doc" (NYC)
So my ~10 years old Xerox copier started consistently eating paper. I toyed with the thought of having it repaired until I realized that it would doubtless have require me to pay greater than a brand new machine would cost. And the new machine would be able to do more at a lower cost. Remember that this old Xerox had cost me about $600 Ten years ago. So following a lot of online investigation I decided this unit was what you want. I can't say enough relating to this wonderful little machine. Allow me to list some of it's wonderful attributes.
*It's quite small , doesn't require a lot of property.
*It's remarkably quiet, even if printing.
*Great sleep feature that allows you to let it rest on 24/7.
*Flawless paper handling in the automatic document feeder and paper supply.
*Generous 250 sheet paper supply capacity.
*Amazing top printing quality...razor sharp.
*Fast little devil (33ppm IIRC).
*Option to kind of stack multiple page copies done thru the document feeder (i.e. 111,222,333 or 123, 123, 123).
*Prints come right out from the front of the machine...no bulky arm quietly necessary to "catch" prints.
*Attractive aesthetically....fits in beautifully in my office.
*Unbelievably economical...I acquired mine for $129 (sorry Amazon)...toner cartridges affordable.

If there's one negative, it is the Liquid crystal display. It isn't big enough also it should be backlighted. I'd also have liked dedicated buttons for a few from the enlarge/reduce settings. This way you would not have to scroll with the available options by continually pushing the "enlarge/reduce" button before you discover the one you are looking for.

So, other than these admittedly picky quibbles, I'd say what you have here is a virtually perfect machine for light to moderate copy duty.

Incredible Bargain

Printer arrived today. Setup in under 15 minutes. B&W print & copy quality is outstanding. Envelopes feed smoothly and print much better than my old Samsung SCX-4100 (which this printer replaced). With this price, the amount of features and quality level justifies five stars. Cannot say enough good things about this MFP. Ensure that you have it using the auto document feeder.

In reaction to one of the other reviewers, I typically purchase OEM toners anyway, so the fact that this machine might not accept knock-off toner cartridges does not bother me (and definitely doesn't seem like a legitimate reason alone to give this excellent machine just one star).

A Must Have Copier
By PJToday "PJ" (California, Bay Area)
This really is my second Brother DCP copier. No complaints. All functions are perfect with my Mac. First copier lasted 4 years. I learned that cleaning the rollers creates longer lasting life with this machine. However I want cleaning too for better performance. Those little paper dusts make the sensors go off and you will go nuts using the message"clean the drum or back door is open" if paper dust remains inside. All said, I probably got annually longer in the first DCP due to maintaining according to booklet. I expect same out of this one. The IMAGES ARE BEAUTIFUL. This is actually the honeymoon . I will keep you posted if any nasties happen. But then Brother's customer service has been tops with correct and pleasant help when needed. Now if only this machine could talk. Keep in mind that it's the 7040 series that's very suitable for the Mac. Happy copies.P.J.Today

Great Product
By Samuel P Matyas
I've been a long time user of Brother products, not just since they're solid machines, but because you can will also get refurb or generic cartridges on the cheap.

I received my model DCP 7040 today and was able to setup the brand new machine in about Fifteen minutes including software install. Knowing that the machine has a starter cartridge which has a capacity of around 1000 pages, I also purchased a high capacity knockoff toner through amazon for an additional $16. (I will write an evaluation on that product too when it comes time to insert into the printer)

I've already tested out all of the features. This is so far, a solid machine. No issues installing and operating on my PC running Windows 7. Startup to print time is nominal, and the overall noise creation of this machine is under the other three ink jets that people have within this office.

This is a breakdown in price difference between this machine and my buddy MFC inkjet (for kicks I'll also breakdown an HP model we now have):

Brother DCP-7040 - Monochrome

I got myself the TN360 compatible cartridge through Tonerpals via Amazon at a rate of $15.40 + $3.99 shipping. Total price $19.39. This is a High Yield product which allows for about 2600 printed pages per cartridge.

Price per page (excluding paper) $0.00746
Price per page ($2.50 ream paper) $0.01246

Laser paper isn't necessary for a laser machine, I have always used normal print paper with no issues and but it in large quantities at Sam's or Costco.

Brother MFC 420cn - Color (4 cartridge)

I have tried personally this machine let's focus on over 4 years without any issues using compatible LC-41 ink sets purchased through Vivamart via Amazon at a rate of $8.62 for an 8 pack (2x each) with free freight. Each cartridge will yield approximately 250 printed pages normal load and far less when printing photos.

Price per page depending on 4 cartridges at $4.31 (not including paper) $0.01724
Price per page depending on 4 cartridges at $4.31 ($2.50 ream paper) $.02224

HP Officejet 6500 Wireless - Color (4 cartridge)

This machine is just more than a year old and also the cheapest I'm able to look for a set of non OEM's is thru eforcity via Amazon at a rate of $22.04 + $2.95 shipping for a total of $24.99. (if you're able to find them cheaper, by all means...) This performs at approximately 250 pages per cartridge unless a high yield black is used. the high yield alone is $15+ for that non OEM.

Price per page based on 4 cartridges at $24.99 (excluding paper) $0.09996
Price per page depending on 4 cartridges at $24.99 ($250 ream paper) $0.10496

This is very much a biased review for Brother equipment, but also based off of current prices for cartridges through Amazon, and at the cheapest price listed. Brother Inkjet machines will be the only comparable machines so far as cost per page (cpp) can be involved, to the costs associated with printing on a laserjet. There is no way I could in good conscience compare a monochrome laserjet to a full color 4 cartridge machine which is why I offered the cpp of laser monochrome, after which the ones from the comparable multi-function inkjet options.

Wanna observe how your present setup matches up? Total price of cartridges / number of pages printable = cpp

Keep in mind that even though you are printing monochrome pages in your color machine, you still be utilizing a small part of your color cartridges to print that black. There is no real algorithm that will allow you the precise amount of ink used, so a fundamental total is given. For this reason once the cartridge capacity says 250 pages, that is the formula I use. For paper costs: price per ream / 500 = cost per page.
______________________________________________________________________________

For this reason I ALWAYS purchase a Brother machine. As you can tell, it is nearly Five times as much to print on an HP unit because it gives print on a comparable Brother depending on prices pulled in the same website. Amazon usually has the cheapest collection of prices for ink and toner. I hope this information helps you inside your quest to find the best bang for your buck.

Buy Brother.
